Heavy rain arrived Wednesday morning and ruined several outdoor posters. Clara replaced them beneath an umbrella that repeatedly turned inside out. Mud soaked her boots, while cold water stiffened her fingers. She refused offers of assistance because continuing the search felt essential. Stopping might allow fear to overwhelm her completely.
Near the greenhouse, Clara noticed three teenagers crawling beneath damaged council fencing. One carried rope while another held a large flashlight. They disappeared inside the abandoned building without seeing her. Clara considered telephoning the park caretaker, but hesitated. Henry would have asked questions before assuming they intended to cause damage.
