Nathaniel Hart was filming coral when the light above him suddenly disappeared. He looked up. A huge whale was coming straight toward the reef, its mouth wide open as thousands of fish rushed ahead of it. Nathaniel kicked backward, but the current pulled hard against him.
On the boat, Elena saw it first. “Nathan! Move!” she screamed. The whale surged through the school of fish. For one terrible second, Nathaniel’s yellow flipper was visible beside its mouth. Then the jaws closed, and both Nathaniel and the whale vanished below the surface.
“Where is he?” another diver shouted. The captain grabbed the radio. “Nathaniel, answer me!” Only static came back. Elena stared at the water in disbelief. “It took him,” she whispered. The captain shook his head. “Keep watching. Nobody takes their eyes off that water.”
