The tallest boy attached rope around his waist before climbing again. Clara stared at his face and suddenly recognized something familiar. Years earlier, Henry had photographed a serious-looking child holding a repaired bicycle. “You knew my husband,” she whispered. The boy stopped climbing. “Coach Henry taught all of us,” he answered.
The boys explained that Henry had repaired their bicycles every Saturday. More importantly, he listened when other adults dismissed them as troublemakers. He had defended them after vandalism they never committed. When they recognized his gardening hat on Clara’s poster, abandoning Bubbles became impossible. Helping him meant honoring the man who helped them.
