Outside the station, Lucy found an online report about a white cat. Someone had photographed it near warehouses across town. Although the image was unclear, Clara recognized Bubbles in every pale shape now. They drove there immediately, carrying his empty carrier and a packet of treats that he normally refused.
The cat eventually appeared inside a mechanic’s workshop after prolonged searching. It was white but had black markings around both ears. Clara thanked everyone and returned slowly to Lucy’s car. “I cannot keep chasing shadows,” she admitted. Lucy squeezed her hand but offered no reassurance that either woman could honestly believe.
