Lucy suggested Clara stay with her family for several weeks. The constant searching and silent house were harming her health. Clara refused at first, fearing Bubbles might return after she left. Lucy promised neighbors would watch the door and telephone immediately. They agreed to reconsider after one final weekend of searching nearby.
Returning home, Clara noticed someone standing beside her garden gate. It was the teenager who had tried approaching her near the pavilion. He appeared to be waiting for her, but Lucy’s car turned into the street before they could speak. By the time Clara looked back, the boy had disappeared.
